Top women's volleyball match-up at Irvine Valley Wednesday

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team, ranked No. 9 in the state, has one of its biggest home matches of the season tonight.

The Lasers, which are ranked No. 9 in the state and lead the Orange Empire Conference, take on No. 14 Santa Ana.

The Lasers have won six matches in a row, sweeping all six opponents.

IVC went to Cypress last Friday and won, 25-22, 25-20, 25-20.

Freshman outside hitter Tessa Marocco finished with 13 kills, seven digs and three blocks and sophomore opposite Jayli Nealy had 13 kills to lead the Lasers.

Freshman middle blocker Kendall Fraser added six kills, three blocks and hit a team-best .625. Freshman outside hitter Angelina Griego chipped in five kills and eight digs, sophomore libero Gabi Brown had 14 digs and Maddie Harkey contributed 34 assists.

On the year, Marocco is averaging 4.36 kills, which ranks No.7 in the state. Nealy is averaging 4.17 kills per set, which is 11th in the state, Brown is averaging 3.90 digs, which is 41st in the state and Harkey averages 8.11 assists per set for Irvine Valley.

Santa Ana has a record of 15-3 overall and is ranked No. 14 in this week's CCCWVCA poll.

The team has a record of 14-3 overall.

Santa Ana's Matilde Teixeira ranks second in the Orange Empire Conference in kills per set at 4.32. She is hitting .287 and also leads the OEC in aces per set at 0.84.

Santa Ana is averaging 11.13 kills per set and a conference leading 2.58 service aces per set.  

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday at Saddleback at 6 p.m.
