Women's volleyball team sweeps Fullerton, still No. 1 in OEC

After its first loss in the Orange Empire Conference last week, Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team bounced back with a sweep over Fullerton on Wednesday night at home.

IVC, ranked No. 12 in the state, defeated Fullerton, 25-16, 25-20, 26-24 in an Orange Empire Conference match.

The Lasers improved their record to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the conference.

IVC has a one-match lead over both Orange Coast and Santa Ana (both 5-2).

Irvine Valley plays again on Friday in a conference match at Santiago Canyon.

It was a big night for freshman outside hitter Tessa Marocco on Wednesday. She finished with a season-high 20 kills and hit .304 in the contest.

Marocco finished in double-digit kills for the 10th time this season and it was her eight match in a row with at least 11 kills.

Marocco also had nine digs and three blocks in the contest Wednesday.

Sophomore opposite Jalyi Nealy added 12 killls for the Lasers. Sophomore setter Maddie Harkey had 31 assists, three aces and five digs and sophomore outside hitter Angelina Griego and sophomore libero Gabi Brown each contributed 16 digs for IVC.

The Lasers are back in action in a conference match on Friday at Santiago Canyon at 6 p.m.
