Women's volleyball team is on point in sweep at Santa Ana

Irvine Valley had to rally for a tough, five-set win over Cypress on Wednesday at home.

The Lasers didn't mess around Friday night at Santa Ana.

Irvine Valley, ranked No. 10 in the state, played one of its best matches of the season, defeating No. 16 Santa Ana, 25-14, 25-16, 25-17 in an Orange Empire Conference contest.

IVC came out on fire in the first set, hitting .452 as a team to set the tone and carried it on the rest of the way.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 9-3 overall and 5-0 in the OEC.

Santa Ana dropped just its second match of the season. The Dons' record went to 9-2 overall and 2-2 in conference.

Irvine Valley had a number of players stand out on Friday.

Freshman outside hitter Tessa Marocco and sophomore opposite Jayli Nealy each finished with 16 kills. Marocco hit .448 with Nealy at .323.

Marocco also ended with six digs and one ace and Nealy had three blocks.

Sophomore middle blocker Kendall Fraser conributed seven kills and hit .462, freshman middle blocker Avery Bennett chippd in six kills, sophomore libero Gabi Brown had a team-high 17 digs and sophomore setter Maddie Harkey ended with 44 assists and four digs.

Irvine Valley is back at home next Wednesday, hosting district rival Saddleback at 6 p.m.
