Women's volleyball team stays on a roll, sweeps Golden West

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team continued its recent strong play Friday night on the road.

The Lasers, ranked No. 15 in the state, hit a season-best .367 on the night in a 21-15, 21-21, 21-18 Orange Empire Conference win at Golden West.

IVC improved its record to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in conference.

The Lasers received contributions all around.

Freshman outside hitter Tessa Marocco led with 11 kills, hit .375 and had eight digs.

Sophomore opposites Jayli Nealy and Chloe Swanson each had nine kills. Nealy hit .368 with Swanson at .348. Nealy had five digs and two blocks and Swanson finished with nine digs.

Sophomore middle blocker Kendall Fraser had another big match, ending with seven kills with no errors on 13 attempts (.538 hitting percentage) and three blocks.

Sophomore libero Gabi Brown contributed a team-high 14 digs and sophomore setter Maddie Harkey ran the offense with 32 assists, while also adding three digs and four blocks.

Irvine Valley has a key week ahead, taking on No. 10 in the state Cypress at home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday and then playing at an improved Santa Ana squad on Friday at 6 p.m.
