Volleyball team sweeps at Fullerton to head into playoffs

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team, ranked No. 19 in the state swept No. 22 Fullerton for the second time this season Wednesday night on the road.

The Lasers won, 25-20, 25-15, 25-21 Wednesday in what was the final match of the regular season.

The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 16-5 overall and 12-4 in conference. The Lasers ended tied for second with Orange Coast in the OEC standings.

Irvine Valley had three players finish with 10 kills and the Lasers hit .274 as a team.

Freshman opposite Jayli Nealy and freshman outside hitters Jaclyn Sanchez and Emily Guenter each had 10 kills.

Sanchez added 11 digs in the win.

Freshman middle blockers Kendall Fraser (seven kills) and Kaitlyn Karsten (six kills) also contributed for IVC. Fraser also had a big four blocks.

Sophomore libero Alexandra Pestolis ended with 12 digs and freshman setter Maddie Harkey contributed 38 assists and 12 digs.

Irvine Valley now awaits for the announcement of the California Community College Athletic Association South Playoff Pairings Thursday afternoon.

The Lasers currently have the seventh-best RPI in the South.
