Women's volleyball team sweeps on sophomore night

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team celebrated its sophomore players on Wednesday night and then won for the second night in a row.

The Lasers defeated Golden West in four sets in a make-up Orange Empire Conference match on Tuesday and followed that up with a 25-16, 25-13, 25-10 OEC win over Santa Ana on Wednesday.

IVC coach Ryan Windisch and his staff honored players Kaitlyn Karsten (middle blocker), Jaclyn Sanchez (outside hitter and setter) and Alexandra Pestolis (libero) and their families before the start of the match.

And then the Lasers, ranked No. 17 in the state, won for the eighth time in nine matches.

Irvine Valley led from start to finish in each set.

IVC hit .362 as a team. Freshman opposite Jayli Nealy led the way with 13 kills. She hit .706 on the night and added three blocks.

Sanchez added 10 kills, six digs, two bloks and hit .529.

Karsten chipped in five kills and five blocks, Pestolis had 10 assists and 11 digs and freshman setter Maddie Harkey ran the offense and ended with 25 assists and 11 digs.

The Lasers play at Saddleback on Friday in a conference match at 6 p.m. and wrap up the regular season next Wednesday at Fullerton at 6 p.m.
