The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team is off to a solid start.
The Lasers swept San Diego Miramar, 25-10, 25-18, 25-7, to improve their record to 2-0 on the year. IVC defeated Canyons last week in four sets on the road.
Irvine Valley was in control from start to finish at home on Friday. It only trailed once in the match and that was at 1-0 to open the second set.
The Lasers received contributions from every player that took the court with nine different players recording kills.
IVC also finished with an impressive 17 aces and hit .368 as a team on offense.
Freshman outside hitter Kaitlyn Karsen had a team-high nine kills and hit .667. Freshman opposite Jayli Nealy, who was Irvine Valley's athlete of the week last week after a strong performance against Canyons, ended with seven kills and also hit .667. Freshman outside hitter Angelina Griego and freshman outside hitter Jaclyn Sanchez each added six kills. Sanchez hit .750 on the night.
Three different setters saw action with freshman Alessandra Nitoglia having 13 assists, freshman Maddie Harkey finishing with 11 assists and freshman Lexie Bruce chipping in seven assists.
Freshman outside hitter Emily Guenter ended with eight digs and freshman outside hitter Tasha Mae had six digs and Nitoglia recorded an impressive eight aces.
Nitoglia went on quite a run in the third and final set, serving IVC to 17 straight points.
The match was tied, 6-6, in the third set when Nitoglia stepped to the line. When Miramar finally won another point, Irvine Valley led, 23-7.
Nitoglia had seven aces during that span.
Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday in San Diego, taking on MiraCosta at 6 p.m. No fans are allowed, but live stream information will be available and posted early next week.
