Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team finished off another perfect week on Friday night.

The Lasers, ranked No. 1 in the state, ran their undefeated streak on the season to 17 with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-18 Orange Empire Conference win over Santa Ana at home.

Irvine Valley went to 17-0 overall and 10-0 in conference.

IVC also recorded its 14th sweep of the year and ninth in a row. The Lasers have captured 29 straight sets.

Sophomore Kristin Austin was unstoppable in the middle. She finished with 12 kills and no errors in 18 attempts (.667 hitting percentage).

Sophomore outside hitter Lea Kruse had nine kills and a team-best 17 digs.

Sophomore outside hitter Alaina Gendale added nine kills and 11 digs.

Freshman defensive specialist Lexie Pereira had a big night with eight digs and six aces. And sophomore setter Truth Hafey contributed 36 assists, three digs and three aces.

Irvine Valley jumped out to leads in each and every set.

The Lasers ended the first set with a kill by Austin and then an ace by Pereira.

IVC led, 23-10, in the second set before Santa Ana ran off five straight points. A kill for a point and then a block for a point by Kimberly Meza got Santa Ana within 23-15.

But the Lasers bounced back and scored two of the next three points, including getting a kill from Kruse to end the set.

It was more of the same in the third set for IVC. The match ended on a hitting error by the Dons.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday at home against Santiago Canyon at 6 p.m.
