Women's volleyball team takes care of business on Friday

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team picked up two more wins on Friday.

The Lasers swept both Palomar and the Cal Lutheran Junior Varsity team.

Irvine Valley ran its record to 5-0 on the year. The Lasers have swept all five of their opponents this season.

IVC defeated Palomar, 25-14, 25-9, 25-5, in a nonconference contest.

The Lasers hit an impressive .534 in the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Gabriela Griego was the star. She finished with 13 kills and no errors in 14 attempts (.929 hitting percentage).

Sophomore outside hitters Lea Kruse and Alaina Gendale each added eight kills. Kruse also had 13 digs, four aces and two assists and Gendale contributed 11 digs.

Sophomore middle blocker Alma Entesari had four kills, freshman defensive specialist Lexie Pereira had six digs and sophomore setter Truth Hafey recorded 40 assists and five digs.

The Lasers also cruised in their match against the Cal Lu JV squad with sophomore Kristin Austin, normally a middle blocker, setting most of the last two sets.

IVC came out on top, 25-14, 25-11, 25-6. 

Freshman middle blocker Helen Reynolds had 11 kills with just one error in 14 swings. Griego added 10 kills and Gendale had nine kills. Unke finished with eight digs and Austin had 28 assists for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday at home, hosting Long Beach City at 5 p.m.
