Seven weeks in a row at No. 1 for women's volleyball team

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team rolled in two Orange Empire Conference matches last week and remains No. 1 in the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association State Top 25 Poll this week.

It is the seventh straight week that Irvine Valley has been ranked No. 1. Irvine Valley is undefeated at 14-0 on the season and is riding a 42-0 program win streak.

Irvine Valley swept Saddleback last Wednesday on the road in one of its best performances of the season and then easily took care of Golden West at home last Friday at home on the team's annual Dig Pink Night to support breast cancer awareness and treatment through the Side-Out Foundation.

The Lasers also moved that much closer to another Orange Empire Conference title. IVC has a three-match lead over Orange Coast and Cypress with six contests left in conference.

In its Dig Pink win over Golden West last Friday, freshman outside hitter Alaina Gendale led the Lasers with 10 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Vortouni finished with ninke kills and Griego, freshman outside hitter Lea Kruse and freshman middle blocker Kristin Austin each contributed six kills in the win for IVC.

Vortouni also had five blocks with Austin adding four blocks and Wolfe ending with three blocks, including two solos.

Kruse tacked on eight digs and four aces. Sophomore libero Renata Bath had 12 digs and freshman setter Truth Hafey had a solid night with 33 assists and 10 digs.

Hafey leads the conference in assists per set and ranks No. 2 in the state at 11.00 per set.

Irvine Valley is at No. 25 Fullerton on Wednesday night, looking for its 42nd-straight victory.
