Women's volleyball team goes to 8-0 with sweep at Santa Ana

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team captured the program's 35th straight win Wednesday night, sweeping Santa Ana on the road.

The 35 wins is impressive dating back to 2016, but this 2018 squad is also on a special streak. The Lasers have yet to drop a set this season, winning 24 sets in a row.

IVC, which is ranked No. 1 in the state, improved its record to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 25-12, 25-6, 25-10 victory.

Santa Ana slipped to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in conference action.

Irvine Valley hit .433 as a team on the night, including .467 in the first set when it took control.

The Lasers had four players with at least five kills.

Freshman outside hitter Gabriela Griego ended with eight kills and hit .333.

Sophomore middle blocker Kylie Miller had a big night with seven ills in eight attempts for a .875 hitting percentage.

Sophomore outside hitter Alyssa Vortouni also had seven kills and added four aces and four digs.

And freshman outside hitter Lea Kruse finished with five kills and hit .556. she also chipped in six digs.

Sophomore libero Renata Bath contributed 10 digs and freshman setter Truth Hafey had 32 assists and three digs.

Irvine Valley will go for its ninth win in a row to start the 2018 season when it plays at Santiago Canyon in a conference match on Friday at 6 p.m.
