Volleyball player Diamond Brogan signs with Cumberland

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team had a signing day for its five sophomore standouts that are headed to four-year programs last week.

Taira Ka'awaloa (Hawaii Hilo), Gabi Lau (Western New Mexico), Olivia Aguilar (Cal State San Marcos), Diamond Brogan (Cumberland) and Megan Ramseyer (Butler) will all be featured in releases.

The Lasers went 27-0 and won the second state title in IVC program history last fall.

Brogan, a sophomore right side and middle blocker, signed with NAIA Cumberland University in Tennessee.

She was a second team all-Orange Empire Conference player for the Lasers this past year and a key player in their march to conference and state titles.

Brogan finished with five kills and a block in Irvine Valley's  23-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16 win over San Joaquin Delta in the state championship match last December at Solano College.

On the season, she averaged 1.36 kills  and 0.72 blocks per set and had a hitting percentage of .324.

Brogan had five kills or more in 13 matches on the year with a high of nine kills in IVC's sweep of Fullerton on Sept. 29. She also hit a career-best .643 in that match.

Brogan recorded five blocks in two different matches during the 2017 season.

As a freshman during the 2016 season, Brogan averaged 1.45 kills and 0.73 blocks per set. She was one of the top three players in blocks in the conference. Brogan recorded her IVC career-high of 11 kills in Irvine Valley's four-set win over Fullerton on Nov. 7, 2016.

Brogan has also played beach volleyball for the Lasers the last two seasons. She is currently competing with Alyssa Vortouni in the No. 5 pair position for the Lasers, who are one of the top squads in the state.

She is headed to a Cumberland indoor team that finished with a record of 15-15 overall last year.
