Women's volleyball team clinches conference title outright

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team clinched the Orange Empire Conference title on Friday with a 25-13, 25-14, 25-14 win over Santa Ana at home.

The Lasers, who are the top-ranked team in the state and only undefeated squad remaining in the state, improved their record to 20-0 overall and 14-0 in conference.

It was Irvine Valley's 17th sweep of the season and 12th in conference play.

IVC has a three-match lead in the standings over Saddleback and Cypress with two contests left to play in the regular season.

Irvine Valley won three straight titles from 2013-15, came in second to Cypress last season and now is back on top.

Irvine Valley hit .474 as a team on Friday night. Sophomore outside hitters Olivia Aguilar and Taira Ka'awaloa with 14 kills each. Ka'awaloa also added 13 digs, while Aguilar had six digs and one ace.

Aguilar hit .609 and Ka'awaloa had a clip of .545.

Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Vortouni added seven kills and sophomore opposite Diamond Brogan had five kills and three blocks.

Sophomore setter Megan Ramseyer ran the offense with 36 assists, two kills, seven digs, four aces and two blocks.

And sophomore libero Gabi Lau finished with six digs for IVC in the win.

IVC closed out the match by scoring five of the final six points, getting kills from Ka'awaloa and freshman outside hitter Hannah Salaya and blocks by Ramseyer and Brogan and Salaya and freshman middle blocker Alma Entesari.

Irvine Valley will try to continue its unbeaten record on Monday when it hosts Santiago Canyon in a conference match at 6 p.m.
