Irvine Valley to host Dig Pink Night Friday against Rustlers

Irvine Valley will host its annual Dig Pink match for women's volleyball on Friday night at 6 p.m.

There is a $5 admission charge with raffles and prizes. All proceeds will be donated to the Side-Out Foundation for breast cancer awareness and research.

Irvine Valley is the only undefeated team left in the state and is ranked No. 1 in the state for the fourth straight week.

The Lasers had a big win at Saddleback on Wednesday night. 

Irvine Valley  dropped the first set for only the second time this year and lost only their four set of the season, but rallied to beat the No. 16 Gauchos, 16-25, 25-18, 25-18, 25-21.

IVC got 16 kills, five digs, two aces and two blocks from sophomore outside hitter Olivia Aguilar.

Sophomore outside hitter Taira Ka'awaloa finished with 11 kills, seven digs and three blocks, sophomore opposite Diamond Brogan had seven kills and five blocks and sophomore setter Megan Ramseyer contributed five kills, nine digs, three blocks and 39 assists for the Lasers in the win.

Sophomore libero Gabi Lau had eight digs and two aces and freshman defensive specialist Renata Bath ended up with eight digs.

Aguilar ranks fourth in the state and first in the conference with 4.51 kills per set. And she is 15th in the state and third in conference in hitting percentage at .352. Ka'awaloa ranks 10th in the state in kills per set at 4.07 per set and 22nd in hitting percentage at .333. Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Vortouni is now 25th in the state in hitting percentage at .332. And Ramseyer is second in the state and first in conference in assists at 10.94 per set.

Golden West has won three matches in a row and brings a record of 11-9 overall and 8-3 in conference into tonight's contest.

The Rustlers are tied for second in the conference with Cypress.

Golden West has swept its last two opponents. GWC defeated Santiago Canyon, 25-21, 25-8, 25-7 at home on Wednesday night.

Ashleigh Atsaros had a team-high seven kills with three digs, an assist and a block and Erica Cantley tallied four kills, a team-high 22 assists and three digs to lead Golden West.

Cherene Uale had six kills and six digs, Holly Hennessy chipped in five kills and eight digs, Eden VanWaardenburg added six kills and a block and Amanda Sosa and Kayelyn Nunez had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

VanWaardenburg leads the conference in hitting percentage at .390 with Atsaros in second at .389. Van Waardenburg is also second in blocks per set at 0.89, while Sosa is first in aces per set at 0.68. Kayelyn Nunez ranks fourth in the conference in digs per set at 3.89 and Keilani Pearson is fifth in kills at 2.98 per set.
