Women's volleyball team rolls Riverside for 16th straight win

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team ran its unbeaten streak on the season to 16 matches with an easy win over Riverside on Friday night at home.

The Lasers, ranked No. 1 in the state, swept the Tigers, 25-8, 25-17, 25-11, in an Orange Empire Conference contest.

It was Irvine Valley's seventh straight sweep and 14th on the season. IVC ran its record to 16-0 overall and 10-0 in conference.

The Lasers have now captured 23 sets in a row.

Sophomore outside hitter Olivia Aguilar, who ranks fourth in the state in kills per set for the Lasers, had another standout match.

She finished with 15 kills, hit .522 and had six digs and one ace on the night to lead the way.

Sophomore outside hitter Taira Ka'awaloa finished with nine kills and four digs and sophomore setter Megan Ramseyer had a season-high six kills to go along with six digs, three aces and 36 assists.

Sophomore opposite Diamond Brogan added six kills and four blocks, freshman outside hitter Alyssa Vortouni had five kills, sophomore libero Gabi Lau chipped in 10 digs and freshman defensive specialist Renata Bath contributed six digs in the win for IVC.

Irvine Valley plays at Saddleback next Wednesday in a key conference match at 6 p.m.

The Gauchos were the last team to take a set off of the Lasers and pushed IVC to the brink. Irvine Valley had to win the final two sets to come from behind for a five-set triumph.
