Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team started the second round of Orange Empire Conference play the same way it began the first.
The Lasers swept defending conference champion Cypress.
This time it happened on the road.
Irvine Valley came away with its 13th sweep in 15 matches this season and remained the only undefeated team in the state with a 25-9, 25-15, 25-21 victory.
The win improved the top-ranked Lasers' record to 15-0 overall and 9-0 in conference.
Cypress, ranked No. 17 in the state, fell to 11-5 overall and 6-3 in conference.
IVC played some of its best volleyball of the season in the opening set.
"We gave up nine points and a number of those points were on our mistakes," IVC coach Tom Pestolesi said. "We were really ready to play tonight. The girls did a great job."
Irvine Valley big nights again from its key group of sophomore players.
Outside hitter Olivia Aguilar had 14 kills, hit .333 and had 11 digs, three blocks and four aces. Outside hitter Taira Ka'awaloa finished with 12 kills, libero Gabi Lau contributed 10 digs and one ace and setter Megan Ramseyer ended with 32 assists, eight digs, two blocks and three aces.
Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Vortouni added seven kills, two digs and two blocks and freshman defensive specialist Renata Bath chipped in four digs.
Irvine Valley hit .272 on the night and helped limit Cypress to just .025 hitting.
The Lasers are home on Friday, hosting Riverside in a conference match at 6 p.m.
