Women's volleyball team goes up against Saddleback tonight

Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team is one of two undefeated teams left in the state along with Cabrillo.

But the Lasers have a big Orange Empire Conference match with district rival Saddleback tonight.

The Lasers, ranked No. 2 in the state and first in Southern California, improved their record to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 25-13, 25-11, 25-19 win over Riverside on the road Wednesday.

IVC got 15 kills from Olivia Aguilar to lead the way. She also hit .467.

Taira Ka'awaloa added eight kills and 11 digs, Diamond Brogan chipped in six kills, Alyssa Vortouni had five kills, hit .545 and added four aces and Alma Entesari finished with four kills and two aces.

Gabi Lau had another solid match with 10 digs, Renata Bath contributed six digs and standout setter Megan Ramseyer ran the offense with 31 assists.

Aguilar ranks sixth in the state and first in the conference with 4.36 kills per set. And she is 11th in the state and third in conference in hitting percentage at .381.

Ka'awaloa ranks eighth in the state in kills per set at 4.04 per set. And Ramseyer is first in the state and the OEC, averaging 11.21 assists per set.

Saddleback is ranked No. 14 in the state and eighth in Southern California.

Saddleback has a record of 8-3 overall and 1-0 in conference.

The Gauchos had a bye on Wednesday from OEC play, but still earned a big win on the road.

Saddleback swept No. 4 in the state Grossmont, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19.

It was Saddleback's sixth straight victory.

Mandy Sides had six kills and six digs, while Antonette Rolda led the Gauchos with 14 assists.

On the season, Helena Lawson averages 3.73 kills, Kendall Nolan averages 2.64 kills, Natalee Gray averages 2.09 kills per set, Kelli Dowell averages 2.63 digs per set and Rolda is averaging 5.97 assists per set for the Gauchos.
