Volleyball player Alissa Blevins off to University of Providence

Irvine Valley sophomore women's volleyball player Alissa Blevins has signed with the University of Providence.

The university is an NAIA school in Great Falls, Mont.

Blevins was the starting setter for the Lasers this past season and helped Irvine Valley end the season with a record of 15-7 overall and 11-5 in conference, which was good for fourth place.

The Lasers won four matches in a row late in the year, including upsetting Santa Barbara City in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, before falling to El Camino in the playoffs.

Blevins started all 22 matches for Irvine Valley and played in a team-high 83 sets. She averaged 7.52 assists per set and led the team in aces with 31. She also had 210 digs, which was fourth best on the team.

She topped 30 assists in nine contests on the year and 40 assists in four matches with a season-high 48 assists in three matches.

She had 10 matches with at least 10 digs, including a season-best 19 digs against Saddleback. She recorded 18 digs and had 33 assists in IVC's big, five-set win over Santa Barbara City in the playoffs.

Blevins was also part of Irvine Valley's beach volleyball program the past two seasons. She helped IVC finish second in the state in the spring of 2016 and was named an all-Orange Empire Conference player in beach volleyball.

She is headed to a Providence team that finished with a 14-14 record overall last season and was 6-6 in conference.

The team reached to the Frontier Conference semifinal where it took eventual conference champion Carroll College to four games before falling.
