Women's volleyball team falls at El Camino to end season

The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team pulled off one upset in the Southern California Regional Playoffs, but couldn't get another.

No. 6-seeded El Camino (23-3) defeated No. 14 ranked Irvine Valley Lasers (15-7) in three sets on Saturday night at El Camino.

The Warriors swept the Lasers 25-20, 25-16, 25-15. El Camino advanced to the CCCAA State Championship for the first time since 2011.

Irvine Valley defeated No. 3 Santa Barbara City in five sets in Santa Barbara on Tuesday night.

But Irvine Valley could never get going at El Camino.

The Lasers hit just 0.47 in the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Lucee Fitzgerald finished with nine kills and 15 digs.

Freshman outside hitter Taira Ka'awaloa had six kills and 13 digs and freshman right side Diamonique Brogan ended with six kills.

Sophomore setter Alissa Blevins contributed 16 assists and five digs in the contest for IVC.

Taylor Brydon paced El Camino with 17 kills and Aiko Waters had nine kills and 11 digs. Michelle Shimamoto finished with 19 digs and Nina Wyer had 36 assists and 10 digs.
