Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team closed out its Orange Empire Conference schedule with a solid win on Wednesday at home.
On sophomore night, the Lasers swept Santa Ana, 27-25, 25-17, 25-17.
The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 13-6 overall and 11-5 in conference. Irvine Valley, which is ranked No. 24 in the state, will finish in fourth place in the conference standings and should make the playoffs.
The Lasers end the regular season with a nonconference match against MiraCosta at home next Monday.
Before Wednesday night's match, IVC honored sophomore players Alissa Blevins, Lucee Fitzgerald, Juju Cannon, Brittany Tuliau and Hailey Riden.
The Lasers then took care of Santa Ana after some anxious moments in the first set.
Irvine Valley trailed, 18-16, in the opening set, but came back to tie it at 22-22 and then took a 23-22 lead on a block by Cannon and Riden. IVC had set point at 24-23 after a kill by Cannon, but Santa Ana tied it at 24-24 on a kill by Mikelle Taylor.
A kill by Fitzgerald gave the Lasers another set point at 25-24. Taylor answered with another kill to tie it at 25-25.
But Irvine Valley won the final two points of the set on a Santa Ana service error and a double contact call.
Irvine Valley went on a 7-1 run in the second set to take a 14-10 lead. A kill by Miller put the Lasers up, 20-16.
And Irvine Valley scored the final three points to win the set. Miller had two straight aces and then Riden had a kill.
Irvine Valley led most of the way in the final set. And the Lasers used a 4-0 run late to take control. A kill by freshman outside hitter Taira Ka'awaloa, a tip winner by Riden, another kill by Ka'awaloa and a kill by freshman right side Diamonique Brogan put the Lasers in front, 23-15, with a kill.
Four points later, Irvine Valley won the set and the match on a kill by Tuliau.
Fitzgerald finished with 13 kills and nine digs, Ka'awaloa had 10 kills and eight digs, Cannon chipped in 10 kills, Askins had 16 digs and Belevins ended with 36 assists and seven digs.
