Irvine Valley's women's volleyball team won its fourth straight match in Orange Empire Conference play, sweeping Santa Ana, 25-8, 25-18, 25-12 at home on Wednesday night.
Irvine Valley picked up its 10th win of the season, improving its record to 10-4 overall and 7-1 in conference.
The Lasers, ranked No. 13 in the state and seventh in Southern California, also remained in first place in the conference standings. IVC actually moved into first by itself.
Irvine Valley went into the night tied for first with Cypress. But Fullerton swept Cypress at home. IVC is now a match ahead of Cypress and Fullerton.
Freshman right side Olivia Aguilar finished with 15 kills to lead the way for IVC. Sophomore outside hitter Hanna Matt had nine kills and three blocks, freshman middle blocker Kayla Shields added seven kills and freshman middle blocker Hailey Riden had seven kills and five blocks. Sophmore libero Emily Reinking ended with 15 digs and sophomore setter Jenna Olbright contributed 36 assists and nine digs.
IVC rolled in the opening. Freshman middle blocker Brittany Tuliau ended the set with a kill.
Santa Ana scored the first two points of the second set, but Irvine Valley then went on a 10-2 run to take control.
The Lasers took their largest lead of the set at 21-10 on a net violation by Santa Ana.
A combo block for a point by sophomore outside hitter Samantha Goodman and Olbright gave IVC set point at 24-14.
But the Dons battled kept battling.
They pulled within 24-18 on a kill by Chloe Anderson, an IVC hitting error, a kill by Filana Duvan and an ace by Madison Logan.
Santa Ana didn't get any closer, however.
A crosscourt kill by sophomore outside hitter Kayla Scheevel on the next point closed out the set for the Lasers.
Irvine Valley had no problem in the third set. The Lasers scored the final five points to finish the match off.
A block by Riden gave IVC a 23-12 lead and two points later, Aguilar put down a kill to send the Lasers to the win.
Irvine Valley will be on the road for a big match on Friday. The Lasers travel to Golden West for a 7 p.m. contest. The Rustlers went into Wednesday tied for second place in conference.
