Coach Tom Pestolesi on USA staff for Pan American Games

Irvine Valley director of volleyball and women's head coach for indoor and sand Tom Pestolesi is a member of the men's coaching staff for the United States team in the Pan American Games in Toronto.

Pestolesi is listed as the team's manager.

The U.S. opens pool play against Puerto Rico July 17 and have other pool-play matches against Mexico and Canada. The other pool consists of Argentina, Brazil, Columbia and Cuba.

The quarterfinals are July 19, the semifinals on July 24 and the medal rounds on July 26.

Pestolesi was an assistant coach for the U.S. women's team for the Pan American Games in 2012.

He helped lead the IVC women's volleyball programs to record-setting seasons this past season.

The Irvine Valley women's team went 27-0 and captured the program's first California Community College Athletic Association State Championship last fall.

He was named Orange Empire Conference coach of the year as well as CCCWVCA all-region co-coach of the year. It was his second straight season being named conference and region coach of the year.

In the spring, Pestolesi guided the IVC women's sand volleyball team to the inaugural CCCAA state title.

The Lasers defeated Grossmont, Golden West and Cabrillo in a final four tournament held at Irvine Valley.
