Women's tennis team defeats defending state champion OCC

Irvine Valley's women's tennis team won five of six singles matches in straight sets and went on to beat defending state champion Orange Coast, 7-2, in a Orange Empire Conference match at home on Tuesday.

The Lasers improved their record to 5-0 with the victory and 2-0 in conference.

Orange Coast fell to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in conference.

The Pirates have won two of the last three California Community College Athletic Association titles and had a record of 22-0 overall last season.

The match started with doubles action, and IVC took two of the three matches.

The freshmen duo of Soleil Zsibrita and Nicole Harper defeated Chloe Mason and Christina Nguyen, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles and the team of freshmen Justice Tien and Ariyana Ash won, 8-1, over Lillian Mason and Audrey Sinclair at the No. 3 position.

In singles, IVC received victories on courts two through six.

Zsibrita won, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles and Tien, sophomore Ashley Le, Harper and Ash each also earned straight-set wins.

Le gave up just one game in a victory over Nguyen at No. 4 singles.

Irvine Valley plays again on Thursday in a conference match at Cypress at 2 p.m.
