Women's tennis team ranked No. 5 in final Oracle/ITA state poll

The Irvine Valley men's tennis team was ranked No. 5 in the state in the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association State Rankings that came out in late May.

The rankings included a top 25.

Irvine Valley finished the year with a record of 13-4 overall, took second in the Orange Empire Conference with a 8-2 mark and made the semifinals of the So. Cal. Regional Team Playoffs.

IVC lost in the semis to eventual state champion Cerritos.

The top 10 teams were Cerritos, De Anza, Glendale, Orange Coast, Irvine Valley, American River, Riverside City, Chabot, Santa Barbara City and Modesto.

Several Irvine Valley players were also in the final rankings for individual singles and doubles action in the state.

Freshman Halla Alajeely was ranked No. 3 in singles and sophomore Fiorella Dreux was ranked No. 28.

Alajeely had already been named Rookie of the Year by the ITA.

Alajeely was named the co-Orange Empire Conference singles player of the year and she reached the semifinals of the CCCAA State Championship in singles at the Ojai 118th Annual Tournament.

On the season, Alajeely had a record of 15-2 in singles, playing at the No. 1 position. And one of her defeats came because of a retirement due to injury.

Dreux, who was named an all-conference player and had a record of 12-2 in singles during the regular season, signed to continue her career with NCAA Division II Shorter University in Rome, Ga.

In doubles, Alajeely and Dreux were ranked No. 4 and the duo of freshman Ariana Hedayati and Abigail Perez were ranked No. 37.

Teaming up in doubles, Alajeely and Dreux reached the quarterfinals at the state event. The duo ended up with a record of 14-4 on the year in doubles.
