Irvine Valley's women's tennis team clinched second place in the Orange Empire Conference with a 6-3 win over Riverside at home on Tuesday afternoon.
IVC, ranked third in Southern California, battled back in the match against No. 5 Riverside after dropping two of three doubles contests.
But the Lasers showed their grit in singles, winning five of six matches.
Irvine Valley's No. 1 team of freshman Halla Alajeely and sophomore Fiorella Dreux picked up the lone win in doubles. The Laser duo defeated Ellia Rosado and Heather Graf, 8-2.
IVC rallied with five of six wins in singles to take the match.
Alajeely defeated Rostado, 6-0, 6-1, at the No. 1 position.
Dreux won, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 3 singles over Autumn Keay.
IVC got a 6-3, 6-0, victory by freshman Abigail Perez against Mikay Kahler at the fifth spot and sophomore Lauren MacDonnell defeated Jolene Beaulieu, 6-1, 6-1, at the sixth spot.
Irvine Valley freshman Anna Krechetova beat Emilia Lopez, 5-7, 7-5, (1-0) at No. 4 singles to cap the win for IVC.
Irvine Valley, which improved its record to 12-3 overall and 8-2 in conference, now awaits playoff brackets, which will be released early next week.
