Women's tennis team earns 10th win of season, sweeps Cypress

Irvine Valley's women's tennis team swept past Cypress, 9-0, for the second time this season in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

The Lasers, ranked third in Southern California, improved their record to 10-3 overall and 6-2 in conference. The Lasers are two matches back of Orange Coast and a match in front of Riverside in the OEC standings.

The Lasers finish off the regular season with two more home matches. IVC plays host to Fullerton on Thursday at 2 p.m. and then takes on Riverside, which is third in the conference, next Tuesday at 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, IVC picked up default wins at third doubles and fifth and sixth singles to already have a 3-0 cushion.

Then in doubles, IVC's top team of freshman Halla Alajeely and sophomore Fiorella Dreux came away with an easy 8-1 victory.

The No. 2 IVC team of freshman Ariana Hedayati and sophomore Lauren MacDonnell won, 8-3, in its match to clinch the overall win for the Lasers.

Dreux, Hedayati, freshman Abigail Perez and MacDonnell all recorded wins in singles for IVC.

Hedayati, Perez and MacDonnell all won in straight sets with Hedayati not allowing a game in her win.

Dreux came back to win, 2-6, 6-2, (10-2) over Ashley Garcia at No. 1 singles for the Lasers.
