Women's tennis team finishes off Saddleback on the road

Irvine Valley's women's tennis team finished off its match at Saddleback on Friday and earned an important 5-1 Orange Empire Conference victory.

The match was started Tuesday, but interrupted by rain.

Irvine Valley won all three doubles matches and then earned two victories in singles to get to the required five points for the win.

IVC held on for two key wins at the top of the ladder in doubles.

The team of freshman Halla Alajeely and sophomore Fiorella Dreux defeated Jackie Melkonian and Kristina Parks, 8-5, at the No. 1 spot. And IVC's No. 2 team of freshmen Ariana Hedayati and Abigail Perez beat Abril Marziali and Kimiya Ataiyan, 8-6.

IVC's third team of freshman Anna Krechetova and sophomore Lauren MacDonnell won, 8-2.

Then in singles, Alajeely cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win at the top spot and Dreux beat Bailey Donine, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 3 singles for the win.

Saddleback won at No. 2 singles and Irvine Valley was up in two of the other three singles contests when the match was called.

Irvine Valley, ranked No. 3 in Southern California, improved its record to 9-3 overall and stayed in second place in the conference standings at 5-2.

The Lasers have next week off for spring break and return to action on Tuesday, Mar. 27 at Cypress for a 2 p.m. match.
