Women's tennis team beats Saddleback, 8-1, to open OEC play

Irvine Valley women's tennis team opened Orange Empire Conference play with another win on Thursday afternoon at home.

The Lasers defeated Saddleback, 8-1, for their third consecutive victory.

IVC improved its record to 5-1 overall.

Irvine Valley won five of six singles contests and all three doubles matches. The Lasers picked up default wins at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Freshman Halla Alajeely continued to look impressive for the Lasers. She stayed unbeaten on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jackie Melkonian at No. 1 singles.

Sophomore Fiorella Dreux (6-3, 6-1), freshman Anna Krechetova (6-3, 6-4) and freshman Abigail Perez (6-3, 6-1) also picked up straight-set victories for the Lasers in singles action.

In doubles, IVC's top team of Alajeely and Dreux defeated Melknonian and Kristina Parks, 8-3, and the No. 2 Laser team of Hedayati and Perez won, 8-5, over Sydney Page and Bailey Donine.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday at Orange Coast at 2 p.m. The two teams tied for the conference title last season and Orange Coast ended up going on to take the CCCAA state title.
