Irvine Valley's women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season on Tuesday afternoon on the road.
The Lasers ran into a tough Cerritos squad and came away with a 7-2 defeat.
IVC was ranked No. 3 and Cerritos No. 6 in the initial So. Cal. poll put out by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association last month.
Irvine Valley's record went to 2-1 on the year, while Cerritos improved to 5-1.
Cerritos won two of the three doubles matches to take an early lead.
IVC picked up one win in singles and another in doubles.
IVC's No. 3 doubles team of freshman Anna Kretchova and Lauren MacDonnell defeated Diviana Bravo and Mary Navalta, 9-8 (5).
The Lasers came close at the No. 1 spot with freshman Halla Alajeely and sophomore Fiorella Dreux falling, 8-6.
In singles, Alajeely won the first set, 7-6 (7-5) over Lisa Suzuki at the No. 1 position and then Suzuki had to retire with an injury.
Sophomore Lauren MacDonnell also played well for the Lasers, but lost two close sets at No. 6 singles.
