Women's tennis player Sarah Mae Garcia named All-American

The Intercollegiate Tennis Association named its All-Americans for the California Community Colleges recently and an Irvine Valley women's player was honored.

Irvine Valley sophomore Sarah Mae Garcia was named All-American in singles and just one of 10 players honored in the state.

She was one of three from the Orange Empire Conference along with Orange Coast's Clarissa Colling and Karen Trinh.

Garcia had a record of 11-5 overall this season. Three of her losses came to a player also on the All-American list. Another defeat was to a player from a four-year college.

Garcia, out of University High in Irvine, was a two-year starter and played No. 1 for Irvine Valley the past two seasons. And was named all-conference both years.

Garcia ended up being ranked No. 4 in the state in singles by the ITA at the end of the year.

She helped the Lasers to the second Orange Empire Conference title in program history this past season.

IVC was ranked fourth in the state by the Oracle/ITA California Community College Athletic Association final rankings for the 2017 season.

The Lasers finished with a record of 11-5 overall.

IVC was ranked No. 1 in Southern California for a good part of the season by the ITA.
