Women's tennis team tops defending conference champion

Irvine Valley's women's tennis team started Orange Empire Conference play with an impressive win on Thursday afternoon at home. 

The Lasers defeated defending conference champion Orange Coast, 6-3.IVC showed the depth of this year's squad with four wins in singles and two in doubles. 

Orange Coast won singles matches at the top two positions, but IVC captured the rest of the matches in singles play.Freshman Lorna Morris, sophomore Samantha Paz, freshman Fiorella Dreux and freshman Lauren MacDonnell each came away with victories in straight sets for the Lasers. 

And Irvine Valley put the match away in doubles with two easy wins.

The team of sophomore Lou Baize and Morris won, 8-1, at the No. 2 position over Orange Coast's Cecilia Arzaga and JoAnn Taylor. And the duo of Paz and McDonnell won, 8-3, over OCC's Kaitlyn Dahlberg and Samantha Newhall at the No. 3 spot.

With the win, Irvine Valley stayed unbeaten on the season, improving its record to 4-0 overall.
