Women's tennis team sweeps El Camino on the road

Irvine Valley's women's tennis team stayed unbeaten on the year with an easy win at El Camino in a nonconference match at El Camino on Tuesday.

The Lasers came away with a 9-0 victory.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 2-0 on the season.

The Lasers started with three wins in doubles. The No. 3 team of sophomore Samantha Paz and freshman Lauren MacDonnell won, 8-0.

The toughest match came at the No. 1 spot where IVC sophomore Sarah Mae Garcia and freshman Fiorella Dreux earned a hard-fought 9-7 victory over El Camino's Violet Simpson and Stephanie Kingham.

In singles, IVC cruised.

The Lasers showed the depth in their lineup by dominating at the fourth through sixth singles positions.

Freshman Lorna Morris and Paz each won their matches, 6-0, 6-0 and freshmen Dreux and Lindsey Van de Water each only lost one game.

Garcia won, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1 singles and sophomore Lou Baize came away with a 7-6, 6-3 win at the No. 2 position.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday, hosting Rio Hondo at 2 p.m. The Lasers then start conference action on Thursday, Feb. 23 against Orange Coast at home.
