Women's tennis team earns hard-fought win at Riverside

Irvine Valley's women's tennis team pulled off an important win in Orange Empire Conference play Tuesday afternoon.

The Lasers moved to 2-0 in conference play with a hard-fought 6-3 win at Riverside.

Irvine Valley won four of six singles matches and two of three contests in doubles.

Freshman Sarah Mae Garcia won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles over Kelli Reynolds.

Freshman Samantha Schwarz (No. 4), sophomore Karina Ryabokonova (No. 5) and sophomore Sierra Mazzarini (No. 6) also won singles matches for IVC.

Schwarz came out on top, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Tiffany Cheek.

Ryabokonova beat Shannon Harris, 7-6, 6-1 and Mazzarini earned a 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory over Ashley Bauman.

In doubles play, IVC got a tough win at No. 1 from the team of Garcia and Schwarz, 9-8 (3) over the team of Reynolds and Lacy Patton.

IVC also earned a 8-5 victory at the No. 3 spot from Mazzarini and Ryabokonova.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 3-3 overall. The team hosts Saddleback on Thursday at 2 p.m.
