Women's soccer team drops home game to No. 1 Cypress

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team fell to No. 1 in the state Cypress, 6-2, in an Orange Empire Conference game at home on Friday.

Cypress led, 2-0, at the half and the Lasers scored two goals in the second half, but they couldn't stop the Chargers. 

Itzel Ramirez, Naomi Lee, Megan Alcantara and Alyssa Skarr scored goals in the second half for Cypress in the win.

Alcantara scored both of Cypress' goals in the first half to end up with the hat trick.

Sophomore forward Jordan Madison scored off of an assist from freshman defender Lilliana Springer in the 52nd minute to pull Irvine Valley within 2-1.

But Ramirez and Lee (penalty kick) scored right after to put Cypress ahead, 4-1.

Sophomore forward Jocelyn Quinonez found the back of the net in the 71st minute for the Lasers to make it a 4-2 game.

Cypress closed things out with goals in the 72nd and 77th minutes.

Irvine Valley sophomore goalie Sydnee Salamoff finished with four saves on the day.

IVC's record went to 8-7-1 overall and 3-5-1 in conference play. Cypress improved to 12-1-3 overall and 6-1-2 in the OEC.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday at Fullerton at 3 p.m.
