Alumni Report: Cierra Savin and WVSU make NCAA DII Tournament

Former Irvine Valley women's soccer standout Cierra Savin wrapped up a solid two years at at West Virginia State University.

The defender started all 17 matches during the 2021 campaign, scored one goal and had two assists as the Yellow Jackets ended with a record of 11-7-1 overall and a mark of 10-5-1 in the Mountain East Conference.

The squad also made its first postseason appearance after finishing third in the South Division, playing in the Mountain East tournament.

In 2022, Savin played in 17 matches and started nine contests for a WVSU squad that finished with an impressive record of 17-3-2 overall and 13-1-2 in conference.

The team fell in the NCAA Division II semifinals, 1-0, to West Chester. It was the first NCAA Division II tournament appearance for the Yellow Jackets.

Savin, from Canyon High, played at Irvine Valley during the 2018 and 2019 seasons. She was named second team all-Orange Empire Conference in 2019.

During the 2019 season, Savin was second on the team in goals and points. She ended with five goals and two assists for the Lasers.

Savin scored a key goal in Irvine Valley's 2-2 tie with Saddleback at home on Oct. 18 and also recorded the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory for the Lasers at Fullerton on Oct. 29.
