Women's soccer team shut out by No. 7 Cypress at home

The Irvine Valley women's soccer team fell to one of the top-ranked teams in the state on Friday in an Orange Empire Conference match at home.

The Lasers competed throughout, but lost to No. 7 Cypress, 8-0.

 Cypress midfielder Christine Duarte scored four goals for the Chargers in the win, which improved their record to 10-2-3 overall and 6-2-2 in the OEC.

Irvine Valley received solid efforts from a number of players, including freshman defender Tyler Ferris, sophomore midfielder Melissa Garcia, freshman midfielder/defender Darlene Bautista, sophomore defender Kathleen Vivaldo and freshman goalie Andrea Gonzales.

Gonzales made 11 saves on the day with a number of them coming at close range.

The Lasers play again on Tuesday, traveling to Santiago Canyon for a conference match at 3 p.m.
