Women's soccer team earns hard-fought tie with Orange Coast

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team came away with a 1-1 tie against Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference match on Wednesday at the OC Great Park.

The Lasers earned their second tie in conference with a hard-fought effort.

irvine Valley (1-15-3 overall and 0-9-2 in conference) scored first.

Freshman forward Yvonne Ventura scored the Lasers' goal in the 26th minute, scoring off a long strike from the left side into the far right corner over the OCC keeeper.

Both teams had multiple chances in the first half.

Haley Rae just missed on a shot wide for OCC before Eden Makafi evened the score in the 32nd minute on a break-away goal off a pass from Blythe Chase.

The two squads battled in the second half with neither finding a match-winning goal.

Irvine Valley freshman keeper Leah Maris finished with five saves.

Brittany Hazelton played the first half in goal for the Pirates and had three saves with Jessica Gardner finishing up the second half and making one save.

The two teams play again Friday at Orange Coast at 3 p.m.
