Women's soccer team drops home contest to Fullerton, 2-0

The Irvine Valley women's soccer team is still looking for its first Orange Empire Conference win.

The Lasers battled and had a couple of chances in the second half, but fell to Fullerton, 2-0, at the OC Great Park on Friday.

IVC had its record slip to 1-10-1 overall and 0-4-0 in conference. Fullerton, which is ranked tied for 19th in the state this week, went to 5-2-2 overall and 2-1-1 in the OEC.

Fullerton took the lead in the 24th minute on a header goal by Ashley Bautista off a corner kick from Lizeth Garcia.

The Lasers nearly answered shortly after, but had a shot knocked away by Fullerton keeper Cindy Suarez. IVC freshman Mikaela Arnone tried to score on the rebound and there was a battle in front of the goal for the ball, but the Hornets ultimately cleared.

In the second half, IVC freshman midfielder Natalia Guzman hit a free kick that just went over the crossbar.

And freshman forward Yvonne Ventura had two shots on goal, but Fullerton put the game away in the in the 72nd minute on a goal by Megan Nickerson off a through ball from Sarah Ramberg.

Irvine Valley freshman goalie Maddison Turcios made her first start in goal on the year and finished with five saves. Suarez made one save for the Hornets.

IVC is slated to play again next Tuesday at the OC Great Park (Field 18) against Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference match at 3 p.m.
