Women's soccer team has its chances, but can't get by Cerritos

The Irvine Valley women's soccer team had plenty of opportunities, but couldn't find the back of the net and fell to Cerritos, 1-0, on Friday afternoon at the OC Great Park.

It was Cerritos' first win of the season. The Falcons went to 1-5-0 overall.

Irvine Valley's record slipped to 1-5-1 overall.

The Lasers hit the post with shots twice in the match and had sever other good chances throughout the contest.

Freshman midfielder Merlin Serpas had three of those chances in the opening minutes of the match, including hitting the post with a shot.

Freshman midfielder Jevaughn Burns, freshman defender Madison Ortega and freshman Melissa Garcia also had solid shots on goal.

Garcia hit the post with a shot in the 84th minute.

Cerritos scored its goal in the 77th minute when Meghan Legayada sent the ball through to Hailey Lopez, whose shot found the inside of the goal post for the goal. 

Anahi De Leon finished with eight saves in goal for Cerritos.

Freshman Leah Maris and Burns split time in goal for the Lasers with Maris making three saves and Burns making two saves.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday, hosting Taft at the OC Great Park at 1 p.m.
