On this day in 2013: soccer team enters the state rankings
On this day (Oct. 7) in 2013 the Irvine Valley women's soccer team moved into the California Community College Athletic Association State and Regional Poll.

The California Community College Athletic Association Women's Soccer State and Regional Poll was released for the third time this season.

And for the first in the two years that the poll has been conducted, Irvine Valley's women's team made the state rankings. Fifteen teams make up the state poll.

The Lasers, who have a record of 6-1-2 overall were ranked 12th in the state and sixth in Southern California.

The top-five ranked teams in Southern California ahead of IVC were Santiago Canyon, Cerritos, Chaffey, San Bernardino Valley and Ventura.

The Lasers, under the direction of second-year head coach Joe Supe, are off to the best start in program history.

They are also tied for second-place in the Orange Empire Conference with a record of 3-1-1 overall.

IVC finished last week with a loss and a tie, falling at Cypress on Tuesday and then tying Saddleback at home on Friday.

Irvine Valley plays Santiago Canyon, which is also the top-ranked team in the state, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at IVC.

The team ended up finishing with a record of 11-7-2 overall on the year and 8-7-2 in conference. The team was paced by Yasmin Hart, Madisen Hammonds, Kelly Cox and Amanda George.
