Women's soccer players Kutcher and Savin named all-OEC

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team had two players receive honors as part of all-Orange Empire Conference teams that were announced on Tuesday.

Freshman defender Amanda Kutcher was named first team all-conference and sophomore forward Cierra Savin was selected to the second team.

Kutcher was a top-notch defender, but also led the Lasers in goals on the season – many coming off of free kicks.

The left-footed Kutcher finished with seven goals and two assists for 16 points.

She had one goal and one assist in Irvine Valley's 2-1 win at San Diego City on Sept. 10 and she scored two goals in a conference match against Orange Coast at home on Oct. 8.

Savin was second on the team in goals and points. She ended with five goals and two assists for 12 points.

Savin scored a key goal in Irvine Valley's 2-2 tie with Saddleback at home on Oct. 18 and also recorded the game-winning goal in a 2-1 victory for the Lasers at Fullerton on Oct. 29.

Irvine Valley finished the year with a record of 5-14-3 overall and 2-11-1 in conference play.

Cypress, which won the conference title, paced the all-conference teams with eight different players making the squad as well as having the coaching-staff-of-the-year.

The Chargers had Audree Campos, Jordan Barber, Hunter Richmond and Brianna Perez make the first team while Taleah Carter, Kelly Lopez, Morgan Patea and Nicolle Valdez were all named to the second team.

Santiago Canyon and Saddleback both garnered six players on the All-OEC Team, which each program receiving three first team selections and three second team selections.

Santa Ana's Leyna Wood was named the Orange Empire Conference MVP.  Wood led the conference in scoring and currently ranks No. 6 in the state with 24 goals on the season. Wood scored in all but four games this season and scored at least one goal in each of the last nine games of the season.
