Women's soccer team knocks off No. 13 in the state Fullerton

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team played its best match of the season and knocked off one of the top teams in the Orange Empire Conference on Tuesday.

The Lasers defeated Fullerton, 2-1, on the road in an Orange Empire Conference match.

Fullerton was ranked No. 13 in the state this week.

IVC took an early lead with a goal by sophomore midfielder Marissa Banos off an assist from sophomore forward Cierra Savin in the 27th minute.

Fullerton answered back, but Irvine Valley never gave in and won it in extra time. 

Savin scored the game-winning goal off a ball from freshman defender Amanda Kutcher in the 92nd minute.

Sophomore keeper Heather Miller was stellar in goal.

And IVC coach Joe Supe said that Sachi SinghDiana Lugo, Kutcher and Sheida Suazo stood out on defense.

"It was all about our back line," Supe said. "They shut down everything. I am very proud of our team."

Irvine Valley improved to 5-9-3 overall and 2-6-1 in conference.

The Lasers play at Orange Coast in a conference match at 3 p.m. on Friday.
