Women's soccer team gets beat, 4-2, by Orange Coast at home

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team is still looking for its first Orange Empire Conference victory.

The Lasers received two nice goals from sophomore defender Amanda Kutcher, but fell to Orange Coast, 4-2, at home on Tuesday afternoon.

The defeat dropped Irvine Valley's record to 3-6-2 overall and 0-3-0 in conference action. Orange Coast improved its record to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in conference.

Orange Coast got out to a 2-0 lead in the first 17 minutes and never trailed.

The Pirates got on the board in the 10th minute when Karryn Henderson scored on a shot to the far post off a pass from Iran Enriquez.

And OCC took a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute when Lynette Romero took a through ball and beat IVC sophomore keeper Heather Miller.

The Lasers made it a 2-1 game in the 19th minute on a goal by Kutcher.

Sophomore midfielder Gladys Davila and sophomore defender Brooke Lobo each had shots toward the end of the half that were saved by OCC keeper Bryana Esparza.

Orange Coast had chances to increase its lead early in the second half, but missed two 1-on-1 opportunities. Henderson sent a shot wide and Romero had her attempt saved by Miller.

Romero also had a chance at a penalty kick after being taken down in the box in the 67th minute. But her PK hit off the crossbar and out.

IVC freshman forward Cierra Savin almost tied the score in the 73rd minute. But her volley attempt off of a free kick from Kutcher went just wide of the goal.

Another long free kick by Kutcher was tipped away from the goal by Esparza in the 75th minute.

Orange Coast made it a two-goal match three minutes later. Romero served a cross that Megan Tingle finished with a volley to put OCC up, 3-1.

Irvine Valley climbed back within a goal on Kutcher's second score of the game in the 81st minute.

But Orange Coast answered right back two minutes later with a goal by Veronica Zambrano to make it a 4-2 lead.

Kutcher nearly scored a hat trick. But her lefty shot in the 85th minute banged off the post and in what was the Lasers' last, best chance to score.

Irvine Valley's Miller finished with six saves in the contest.

The Lasers play again on Friday at Santiago Canyon at 3 p.m.
