Irvine Valley's women's soccer team is still looking for its first win in the Orange Empie Conference.

But the Lasers showed they are not far off on Tuesday at home against Cypress.

IVC had its chances throughout in a 1-1 tie with the Chargers.

Irvine Valley moved its record to 2-4-3 overall and 0-3-2 in conference. Cypress went to 4-3-3 overall and 2-1-2 in conference.

The Chargers struck first, getting a goal in the 33rd minute.

IVC couldn't clear a ball in its defensive end and Cypress took advantage. Morgan Pantea scored off of a pass from Audree Campos to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute.

But the Lasers got level early in the second half.

Five minutes in, freshman midfielder Nancy Hernandez made a nice move along the left touch line, beat a defender and flicked a ball into the middle of the box. Freshman midfielder Giselle Garcia made a run and one-timed the ball into the right side of the net with her left foot.

The standout goal tied the game for the Lasers.

Both teams had chances down the stretch with Irvine Valley freshman keeper Heather Miller saving a close-range shot by Pantea and sophomore defender Savanna Hayes, sophomore midfielder Heaven Hernandez and sophomore forward Emily Rodriguez creating chances for the Lasers.

Miller ended with four saves in goal for IVC.

Irvine Valley has a bye on Friday and plays again in a conference match next Tuesday at home against Norco at 3 p.m.
