Women's soccer puts up five goals in rout at Norco

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team scored its most goals in a game this season with a 5-0 Orange Empire Conference win over Norco on Tuesday on the road.

Irvine Valley improved its record to 3-12-7 overall and 3-7-6 in conference.

The Lasers scored two goals in the first half to take control.

Freshman defender Angela Hernandez scored on a header off a cross from freshman forward Jade Stewart in the 17th minute to put the Lasers on the board.

Freshman goalie Marissa Banos then scored in the 19th minute after a handball by Norco in the box. Banos stepped to the spot and had her penalty kick saved by the Mustang keeper, but Banos tapped in the rebound.

Sophomore defender Yvette Belman made it a 3-0 game just seven minutes into the second half. She took a through ball from freshman midfielder Carla Rodriguez and then scored.

Rodriguez got a goal of her own in the 68th minute, finishing a pass from Hernandez to give Irvine Valley a 4-0 lead.

And Belman capped the scoring in the 70th minute with her second goal of the game. Freshman forward Lauren Berry had the assist.

The goals were Belman's team-tying third and fourth of the season.

Banos recorded the shutout, which was IVC's seventh of the year. She had two saves in 70 minutes of action. Belman played the final 20 minutes and ended with two saves as well.

Irvine Valley plays finishes the regular season on Thursday with a game at Saddleback.
