Women's soccer team gets shut out at El Camino

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team is still looking for its first win of the season after losing, 2-0, at El Camino in a nonconference match on Wednesday afternoon.

El Camino picked up its first victory of the season and improved its record to 1-2-1 overall. Irvine Valley slipped to 0-5-0 overall.

The Lasers out-shot the Warriors, 14-11, in the contest. Eleven of those shots came in the first half for IVC.

But El Camino struck early in the match to take control.

Kathryn Wilson scored her first goal of the season in the eighth minute.

Wilson intercepted a ball at midfield from the Laser defense and dribbled into the box where she played a give and go pass with Monica Bernardino, who slotted it back to Wilson and she shot it past IVC freshman goalie Samantha Carter

El Camino doubled its advantage to 2-0 early in the second half when Taylor Herm scored her first goal of the season.   Herm grabbed a loose ball at the top of the Laser box and dribbled past two defenders before slotting the ball underneath the goalkeeper and into the net.

Freshman midfielder Marissa Banos had two shots on goal for IVC in the contest.

Carter finished with five saves in goal.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday when it opens up conference play at home against Santiago Canyon at 3 p.m.
