Irvine Valley's women's soccer suffered its second tough loss in a row, falling to Orange Coast, 1-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match on Friday at home.

IVC lost to Cypress, 2-1, earlier this week at home after scoring the first goal of the contest.

On Friday, Orange Coast scored four minutes into the match and made it stand up.

Aileen Ortiz got in behind the Irvine Valley defense and took a shot from the left side. IVC sophomore keeper Yesenia Pulido was able to get a hand on the shot, but the ball rebounded to Lupe Rodriguez, who knocked it in.

Irvine Valley played right with Orange Coast, who was third in the conference standings, the rest of the way.

The Lasers had several chances to tie it, especially in the second half.

Sophomore midfielder Vanessa Gonzalez had her free kick knocked over the top of the goal by OCC keeper Tara Tellez.

A shot by sophomore midfielder Samantha Mendoza inside the box was blocked by a Pirate defender.

And another free kick by Gonzalez bounced in front of the goal, hit the crossbar and rolled away.

Pulido kept Irvine Valley alive with a few nifty saves, including one off a back heel shot by Jordan Moore and another on a hard-driving, left-footed shot by Moore in the first half.

Orange Coast just missed scoring when a shot by Ortiz hit the post early in the second half.

Pulido and Tellez each ended up making six saves in goal.

The loss was Irvine Valley's fourth in a row and dropped its record to 6-8-4 overall and 4-7-2 in conference.

Orange Coast improved to 11-4-3 overall and 8-3-2 in conference.

Irvine Valley plays again next Tuesday in a conference match at Santa Ana at 3 p.m.
