Irvine Valley's women's soccer team came away with its best win so far this season on Tuesday.

The Lasers defeated MiraCosta, 3-2, on the road.

It was Irvine Valley's second straight victory and improved its record to 2-1-2 overall.

IVC is now unbeaten in its last four contests.

Sophomore forward Alexandra Benedict was at it again on offense to pace the Lasers.

After scoring four goals, including three in the second half in IVC's 6-1 win at San Diego City last Friday, Benedict added two more goals on Tuesday against MiraCosta.

She opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a goal on a breakaway. Freshman midfielder Karina Casiano was credited with the assist.

MiraCosta answered with a goal by Bianca Gastellum off a corner kick in the 27th minute.

Irvine Valley got the lead back just before halftime when freshman forward Emily Rodriguez scored in the 42nd minute. She took a pass from sophomore midfielder Danielle Lefebvre and hit a high shot that beat the keeper.

MiraCosta tied the match at 2-2 six minutes into the second half on a goal by Alexandria Stewart after a free kick into the box.

But Irvine Valley got the game-winning goal from Benedict in the 63rd minute off another assist from Casiano.

Irvine Valley out-shot MiraCosta, 15-12, in the match.

Sophomore goalie Yesenia Pulido finished with four saves for the Lasers.

Irvine Valley now takes a week off before the start of Orange Empire Conference play next week.

The Lasers open their OEC schedule at Saddleback next Tuesday at 3 p.m.
