Irvine Valley's women's soccer team showed it is ready for a strong finish to the 2015 season with a solid win on Tuesday.

The Lasers blanked Golden West, 3-0, in an Orange Empire Conference match on the road.

The win improved Irvine Valley's record to 5-7-2 overall and 3-5-2 in conference.

It also moved Irvine Valley into a tie for sixth place in the conference standings with Golden West - just a match behind Fullerton for fifth.

"We really showed a lot of energy," IVC coach Joe Supe said. "I think the team is ready to make a push her in the second round of conference."

Irvine Valley scored two goals in the first half on Tuesday to jump out in front.

Sophomore forward Crystal Lefebvre scored off a through ball from freshman forward Brenda Chopin to give IVC a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.

The Lasers made it a 2-0 game on a goal off a set piece play. Sophomore defender Marissa Perez sent a ball into the box off a free kick and sophomore defender Christina Anderson was able to finish.

Irvine Valley put the game away midway through the second half on a nice goal.

Chopin beat three players down the wing and dribbled to the end line where she crossed the ball back to Lefebvre, who scored.

Freshman Alexandra Benedict made her first start in goal this season for IVC and recorded the shutout with five saves. Benedict is also a standout forward for the team.

"She showed a lot of confidence and really stepped up for us," Supe said.

Irvine Valley has a week off before it plays at Santa Ana next Tuesday in another conference match.
