Women's soccer team rallies late for tie at Norco

Irvine Valley's women's soccer team pulled out a 2-2 draw at Norco in an Orange Empire Conference match on Friday, but just barely.

The Lasers trailed by two goals in the final minutes of the contest, but battled till the end and got goals in the 89th and 90th minutes to earn the tie in the squad's final match of the regular season.

Irvine Valley made a mistake in the back and gave up a goal early in the contest.

IVC trailed, 1-0, at halftime.

Another turnover in the defensive end resulted in another Norco goal at the start of the second half.

Irvine Valley dominated possession and shots on goal and had plenty of opportunities to score, but couldn't convert until the final moments of the contest.

IVC freshman forward Crystal Lefebvre scored in the 89th minute off of an assist from sophomore forward Tiana Salazar.

A minute later, freshman midfielder Stephany Ortiz scored off of another assist by Salazar.

Lefebvre's goal was her team-leading eighth of the season. Ortiz's goal was her first of the year.

Salazar's two assists  were her eighth and ninth assists of the season and moved her into the team lead for points with 19.

Freshman keeper Nicole Dunn made one save while playing the first half and freshman goalie Herminia Verduzco made two saves in the second half.

The tie moved Irvine Valley's record to 12-3-6 overall and 9-3-4 in conference.

The tie also meant that Irvine Valley finished in third place in the conference standings. The Lasers ended with 31 points, which was two points behind second-place Cypress.

Irvine Valley now awaits to hear about the playoffs. The Southern California Regional playoff bracket will be announced next Tuesday.

IVC should make its first postseason appearance in 20 years. It has been ranked as high as eighth in Southern California this season.
